Alpha Seven Aviation (“we”, “our”, “us”) respects and values your right to privacy. This policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, store and protect personal information in line with POPIA, which regulates the processing of personal information by public and private bodies in South Africa. This policy applies to personal information we collect from:

  • prospective and current trainee pilots, students, and visitors;

  • website users, newsletter subscribers and enquirers;

  • employees, contractors, service providers and other stakeholders;

  • any other individual whose personal information we process.
    It applies to all data processing activities we carry out in connection with our flight-training business at Margate Airport, KwaZulu-Natal.
     

3. What is Personal Information?

Under POPIA, “personal information” means any information relating to an identifiable, living natural person or where applicable, an identifiable juristic person. Examples include name, identity number, contact details, location information, online identifiers, education or employment history, financial or medical information. Popi Act Compliance+1

4. Our Responsibilities & Your Rights

We are the “responsible party” under POPIA for the personal information we collect and process. We are accountable for ensuring the conditions for lawful processing of personal information are met. Standard Bank+1 You have the right to:

  • request access to the personal information we hold about you;

  • request correction or deletion of inaccurate, irrelevant or out-of-date personal information;

  • object to the processing of your personal information in certain circumstances;

  • withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.

5. How We Collect Personal Information

We collect personal information in a variety of ways, including:

  • when you enquire about our training programmes or visit our facilities;

  • when you register as a trainee pilot or student and submit forms, identity documents, medical certificates, logbooks or other training records;

  • when you apply for employment or service-provider engagement;

  • via our website, email communications, social media or other digital channels;

  • when you provide feedback, attend events or communicate with us for other purposes.
     

6. Purposes for Processing

We process personal information only for specific, explicit and legitimate purposes, including:

  • to assess, register, train and manage trainee pilots and students;

  • to comply with aviation-training regulatory requirements and the requirements of the South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA);

  • to provide you with information about our courses, promotions, events or updates (where you have consented);

  • to manage employment, contractors, service-provider relationships;

  • to manage our business operations (billing, accounting, internal records, audits, safety and compliance obligations);

  • to ensure security of our facilities and equipment;

  • for any other purpose compatible with the above and to which you agreed or which is required by law.
     

7. Lawful Basis and Consent

We rely on one or more lawful bases for processing your personal information, including:

  • your consent (which you may withdraw at any time);

  • performance of our contract with you (e.g., student-training contract);

  • compliance with a legal or regulatory obligation;

  • legitimate interests of the school (provided your rights are not overridden).
    If you do not provide the personal information requested, we may not be able to enrol you on a course, deliver training or provide services to you.
     

8. Processing Limitation, Retention & Disposal

We process personal information only if it is necessary for the purposes described above, and we endeavour to ensure it is accurate, complete and up-to-date. Once no longer required, we securely dispose of or anonymise the information.

9. Disclosure and Transfers

We may disclose your personal information to:

  • our service-providers, partners, contractors and agents who assist us in delivering our training and operations, under confidentiality obligations;

  • regulatory, aviation-safety or government authorities (e.g., SACAA) as required by law or regulation;

  • other third parties only with your consent or where allowed/permitted by law.
    If we transfer personal information outside South Africa, we will ensure that the recipient is subject to similar privacy protections and we comply with the cross-border transfer rules set out in POPIA. Public Interest SA+1
     

10. Security Safeguards

We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect the personal information we hold from unauthorised access, loss, damage, destruction or disclosure. This includes secure storage, restricted access, encryption, regular review of our systems and procedures. Sasa+1

Our website may use cookies, tracking pixels or similar technologies to collect anonymised data about your use of the site (e.g., browser type, device, pages visited). Where these technologies collect personal information or identifiers, we ensure compliance with POPIA and obtain your consent where required.

If you have consented, we may send you marketing communications (such as newsletters, offers about our courses, training-events). You may opt-out at any time by following the unsubscribe instructions included in those communications or by contacting us directly.
 

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time (for example, if our practices change or to comply with legal/regulatory developments). We will notify you of any material changes via our website or other communication channels and update the “Effective Date” above.
